Cynthia Johnston is a documentary and fine-art photographer residing in the Boston area. Her current work delves into the complexities of personal and cultural identities. As a Midwesterner and daughter of a WWII refugee, her own bicultural identity enables a willingness to consider many viewpoints while photographing.
Recent recognition includes first-place awards in the 2023 and 2021 Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers (press/editorial), a silver medal in the 2022 Prix de la Photographie de Paris (political), and was shortlisted in the London International Creative Competition in 2022.
Her current project, Somewhere in the Middle, is a photo series made from the point of view of a Midwestern re-examining “home” after many years away. Some work from this series is on exhibit courtesy of the Los Angeles Center of Photography until March 25, 2025. Location and other exhibition info on my homepage
